Interview Questions – What’s your personality?

It is becoming increasingly important for a company during the recruitment process to find a candidate that doesn’t just fit the requirements of the role, but also provides the right culture fit within the team. Trying to assess who will be a good team fit can be extremely difficult, with only a limited amount of time to try and glean someone’s personality in a highly pressurised situation, whilst nerves are rife. In order to overcome this Employers are coming up with weird and wonderful questions designed to help with personality profiling and you may or may not have had experience of having to deal with one of these interview questions before.

Examples of interview questions can include:

• What book do you think every (job title) should read?
• What would your Best Friend / Boss say about you?
• If your career was a movie which movie would it be?
• Who is your favourite celebrity and what would you say when you meet them for the first time?
• If you were an animal which one would you be and why?
• If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
• If you could have a superpower what would it be?

The difficulty with these questions is that they are hard to prepare for, often putting you on the spot which is kind of the idea. The more formal questions can be responded to in a controlled and rehearsed manner, but these questions are designed to test your quick thinking thus making it harder to hide your true personality and forcing you to think on your feet. With these types of questions there are still right and wrong ways to answer that can set off alarm bells to potential employers, so it is worth considering how you would answer these to best reflect your personality and highlight your key skills.
